What a year it’s been in our country, our industry, and in the yachting hub of Ft. Lauderdale! Even with all the distraction of COVID19, there is plenty going on in 2020 in the yachting capital of the world! Physical updates, new construction, and improvements are underway in many of the area marinas and properties.
First off, our 17th Street Yacht Basin, led by US Marina Group partners Kevin Quirk and Jim Bronstien, have finalized designs to rebuild the basin docks to create a more user-friendly layout which will include long-overdue floating docks. In addition, our superyacht face dock will be rebuilt with bigger docks and deeper water and is one of only 4 locations in the area available to handle 300’ + superyachts with over 750’ of continuous direct access face dock. These marina renovations will begin in earnest next year.
Our on-site hotel, the famed Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina has completed its multi-million-dollar guest room renovation this past March. The next phase of upgrades will be a brand-new waterfront restaurant and renovated Gbar!
Across the ICW, Pier 66 is rumored to have a new re-opening date in 2023 or 2024. While landside construction is on hold, the marina continues to accept boats.
On the other side of the bridge, the much anticipated and re-construction of the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center and the host hotel are well underway.
F3 Marina, located on the 15th Street canal is now building a fully-automated dry storage marina for 250 boats up to 45’ long scheduled to open sometime next year.
Las Olas Marina is ready to begin a complete rebuild. The developer, Suntex Marinas, has plans for 68 boat slips, a ship store, two restaurants, offices, a swimming pool, and a rooftop gym. Opening 2022.
South Fork Marina will be a brand new in-water marina on the New River across from Lauderdale Marine Center. The marina development project slated to have 34 slips for yachts up to 155 ft long. US Marina Group consulted for the business modeling and layout for this site before it’s sale last November. Opening mid-2021.
Port 32 is a rebuild property that can now accommodate vessels up to 150 ft for in-water repairs. Coming in 2021 is a new dry stack storage facility located on the New River, just west of I-95.
It is clear that a lot is happening in the yachting world in Ft. Lauderdale. Stay tuned for more updates!
